The Bonfire & Fireworks Display has been running for over 40 years in the town. Many of us fondly remember the fireworks nights of our youth. The Helensburgh Round Table has been putting on a fantastic fireworks show and event at the pier carpark for as long as we can remember. It is usually scheduled for the closest Saturday night to the 5th November.
This occasion used to be the main fundraising event run by the Round table. Variable weather unfortunately makes income from donations unreliable and we have to work hard to try and ensure the event at least breaks even every year.
Over the years many ways of staging the event have been tried, with large arenas, live music, licenced bars and so forth. After the recent CHORD works we have been building the event back up again with more stalls and the return of the bonfire.
In recent years we have begun to seek more support from the local business community to sponsor the event, which greatly helps increase the likely hood of success of the event.
The Beer & Gin Festival was in it’s 12th year this year. From humble beginnings in the Victoria Halls the event has grown and grown with each year. In recent years the successful introduction of the Gin Bar, with craft gin cocktails from Gin71, has prompted us to rebrand the event as the Beer and Gin Festival. This year, with the Gin Bar, Prossecco Bar and our largest ever selection of cask ales (over 60!), ciders and craft lagers saw attendance grow to 2,500 over the 2 days for the first time ever.
The Beer and Gin Festival usually takes place on the second weekend in May each year.
The festival receives tremendous support from local business who sponsor various aspects, for which we are very grateful. It is also a real team effort with many volunteers helping out at the event. Like all our events, it is entirely run by volunteers and all proceeds are distributed to local good causes.
It’s also a great weekend!
The Santa Dash is a fun family friendly event. Who doesn't like to see hundreds of festive families getting active and with some fresh air! Since the start of the Winter Festival in the town we have held the the Santa Dash on the Sunday at the end of the Winterfest.
Previously we have supplied santa suits for every runner as part of the entry fee. To make the event more accessible, particularly to larger families this year we are trying out a santa hat run. The entry fee has been reduced as a result so hopefully more people will be ale to get involved. If you have your own santa suit left over feel free to wear it!
