We were delighted to meet with the team from The Tower cinema in Helensburgh to hand them a cheque for £1,000.
A few months ago, The Tower applied for funding through our online form asking for support around 2 projects.
With the cost of living crisis and the energy cost rising, the Helensburgh institution, popular beyond the town, needed some support.
First of all, the cinema has been running a "Silver Screen programme", with 2 screenings a week for people aged 60+. the idea is to encourage them to come see a movie in a friendly, warm and safe environment. Over 80 people enjoy those screenings weekly.
The Tower approached the Round Table to ask for funding that would be used to provide cakes to the audience for the coming months.
Secondly, it is important to know that The Tower is operated by volunteers. With limited budget, the cinema was never able to provide volunteers with branded clothes to help customers recognise and identify them.
We will be providing funding to ensure the whole team can have access to The Tower branded tops.
Commenting on this donation, Andrew Duncan, Chairman at Helensburgh & District Round Table said:
"Our raison d'être is to support projects in the community and help Helensburgh thrive. We see The Tower as a key component of Helensburgh's identity and we are delighted to be in a position to help them.
It is important for people from Helensburgh to realise that we're giving on their behalf as the funds come fro the money we collect at our various events. So I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who's ever attended a Round Table gathering."
Commenting as well, Donna Hicks, volunteer co-ordinator at The Tower said:
"On behalf of the volunteers at The Tower Digital Arts Centre, I'd like to thank the Helensburgh & District Round Table for their extremely generous grant. It will enable us to buy yummy treats for out lovely Silver Screen guests who come along every Tuesday or Thursday and enjoy lunch and a film.
It's a fabulous way to combat loneliness in older people and encourage individuals to the cinema who might otherwise not come. Part of the grant will also allow us to purchase 'Tower' branded clothing so that our volunteers will be more easily identifiable to our customers. The Tower is a charity and is run by a small team of staff and volunteers. This money is significant to us and we are truly grateful."
